《拍案惊奇》为拟话要集，由明末凌濛初(1580－1644)编著，应书贾之邀为迎合坊间需要而作，成稿于天启七年(1627)，次年刊成，共40卷40篇。本书与《二刻拍案惊奇》合称《二拍》，所演故事主要是从古今书籍中搜求，"可新听睹，佐谈谐者"，"演而畅之"(《初刻拍案惊奇序》)。书中内容脱离现实生活，宣扬封建伦理道德，多因果报应之谈，一定程度上反映了当时社会历史状况及市民的思想意识。
