The novel won a very high impression in the era and initiated “the fever of reading”. The novel adopts the perspective of first person and tells about the “fantastic joy” of young Werther, the respected and lovely villagers and priest around him when he firstly got to Wahlheim and palpitation with excitement and the pure and beautiful emotions developed after he firstly acquaint with Lotty. All the things were so good to let people have the urge to cry. However, Lotty had engaged with another person. Werther listened to persuasion and found a small post in the official residence. However, he cannot stand the envoy who found quarrel in a straw. He was evaluated as being self-conceited and insolent on account of his ability by people around him because of his unworldly thoughts. He was finally humiliated at a party. Then he resigned and returned to Wahlheim. However, the former acquaintance who was originally lovely, pure and beautiful had gone forever. Werther was trapped in the fruitless love with Lotty and could not extricate himself. Eventually, he committed suicide by a bullet. Epistolary style walks into the inner heart of the hero and breathes together with Werther’s fate. In view of the limitations of the content of diaries and letters, the author also set “From the editor to readers” to promote the development of the plot. The beautiful lyric style, the clean and bright words, and in-depth thinking of life benefit by associating together and are worthy of praise.
