曾、左、彭、胡在中国近代史上无疑是几位极具影响力的人物，不论在治国、齐家还是道德文章都有了不起的建树，余被至今，仍为今人所效法。他们的书信墨迹更是被人们视为珍宝，想一睹而难求。曾、左、彭、胡的书法亦为学书者所重，开启民国书法风气之先，极具影响力。朱建纲先生将曾、左、彭、胡书信墨迹影印原件，不令独有，奉献于社会，与学者共分享，十分珍贵难得，曾国藩的书信墨迹五十余封近二百页，左宗棠书信墨迹近百余封二百三十页，彭玉麟书信墨迹六十多页，胡林翼书信墨迹八十页，共收录四人的书信墨迹近三百封五百七十二页。（Zeng Guofan, Zuo Zongtang,Peng Yulin,and Hu Linyi are influential persons in Chinese modern history. They gained great achievements in the management of family and country, and has great thinking in ethics and articles. Their achievements are unparalleled. The personal letters of them are cherished by people, and are hard to get. The Calligraphy of Zeng, Zuo, Peng, and Hu are thought highly of by scholars, which led the calligraphy learning in the Republic of China. Zhu Jiangang contributed the original letters of the four people to the society and shared them with scholars, among which there are 50 letters of Zeng, totaling 200 pages, hundreds of letters of Zuo, totaling 230 pages, Peng's over 60 pages and Hu's 80 pages. That is nearly 300 letters, totaling 572 pages on the whole.）
