无名的裘德 (Jude the Obscure)

Jude liked learning and thought deeply, and worked hard in self-study, but had always been refused by the University. The heroine Sue was smart and pretty, and more importantly, with independent spirit and thoughts, and despised the common opinions as well as the rigid religion. However, the love between she and Jude was not tolerated by church, and despised by the society. Jude could not realize his ambitions, failed to secure a job and got no loans. In despair, his eldest son hanged himself together with the younger sister and brother. Suffered from this great misfortune, Sue finally gave in to the fate and the church, leaving her beloved Jude, with all her free thoughts and independent personality destroyed. Jude drank all day long and depressed into illness, left the world with sorrows at an age younger than thirty.)
